Michael Jones McKean is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Nancy Graves Foundation Award, an Artadia Award, a Thayer Fellowship in the Arts, a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship and a number of State Arts Commission grants. McKean has also been in residence at The Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York City, The Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Central Michigan University as the Stephen L. Barstow Fellow, The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana, and ThreeWalls in Chicago, Illinois.
Michael’s work has been shown extensively nationally and internationally including recent exhibitions at the Quebec City Biennial, Grand Arts in Kansas City, Missouri, DiverseWorks in Houston, Texas, The Bemis Center in Omaha, Nebraska, Horton Gallery in New York City, Project Gentili in Italy, Inman Gallery in Houston, Texas, and ThreeWalls in Chicago, Illinois.
McKean’s work is represented by Horton Gallery in New York City, Gentili Apri in Berlin, Germany and Inman Gallery in Houston, Texas. He currently lives in Richmond, Virginia where he teaches in the Sculpture and Extended Media Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
